A Chiropteran is a grotesque, undead monster with the ability to disguise itself as a human. It lives by feeding on peoples' blood. There is a secret organization called the Red Shield that exists to hunt down the Chiropterans. In the year 2005, Okinawan high school girl, Otonashi Saya, lives her life peacefully. She is normal in all respects, with the exception that she lost all her memories a year ago. However, her perfect life is about to change dramatically. She meets Hagi, a man in a black suit playing a cello, who gives her a katana. At that moment, history turns a new page. What secrets does her past hold? Will Saya remember?

There is a PS2 game called Blood: The Last Vampire with two volumes based on the Blood: The Last Vampire film. It contained over two hours of animation that was produced by Production I.G. In the game the player is given the choice of how they wish the story/plot is to be developed and the gameplay leads to 42 possible endings. A PSP version of this game has been made and it contains both parts of the PS2 game on one UMD. The PSP version contains a strategy flow chart, a CG gallery and specially edited movies. Oddly, the plot of the PS2 game Blood: The Last Vampire and Blood+ anime diverge greatly. In the PS2 game Saya retains the same character that she had in the film, including the same costume, the events of the anime Blood+ never occurred.
